Koh Sung-Hee

Abstract
This was an experimental evaluation of role playing for children with mental retardation to improve social attitudes and personal behaviors. The 27 subjects were including 14 children with mild mental retardation and 13 children with moderate mental retardation were participated in the role playing program. Results indicated that differences of increment between children with mild mental retardation and children with moderate mental retardation in social skills such as ¡¯responsibility¡¯, ¡¯helping skills¡¯, and ¡¯interpersonal skills¡¯ were statistically significant. Promoting positive factors of social skills such as ¡¯responsibility¡¯, ¡¯helping skills¡¯, and ¡¯interpersonal skills¡¯ were more effective then promoting negative social skills likes ¡¯bullying¡¯ and ¡¯physical attack¡¯. Therefore, the role playing program was effective for children with mental retardation to promote positive social behaviors.
